Lord Ganapathy or Vighneswara

Ganesh or Lord Ganapathy is elephant-headed Hindu God of Beginnings, who is traditionallly worshipped before any major enterprise and is patron of intellectuals.

As per Hindu tradition, we start any artform with Ganesh sthuthi (Praise or worship of Lord Ganesha).

Kerala Mural Paintings are a true picturization of the drawn from the invocatory verses of Dhyana Slokas. Hence we draw the sketch as per the Invocatory Verse . There are many Meditative verses for Ganapathy, we chose the below one.

"Gajasyam Ekadantham Cha
Thri Nethram Nagabhooshanam

Kanakaabham Karaasaktha
Paashangushavaram Thadha

Bhakshyam Cha Bibhratham Devam
Hraswaa Paada karadwayam

Shuntagra Grastha Chashakam
Mahakayam Vichintaye".

Meaning of the verse is given in video . The sketch is drawn as per the above verse. As per the verse the elephant headed God , has 4 hands with Pasham, Angusham , Laddu and Vardam(blessing sign).

The sketch is given in two parts. Please watch both the videos completely , write down notes, and start drawing the sketch.  Clarify  queries( if any) with sir, before red outline (Step 2).

Colour Mixing & Background Colouring

Colour mixing (same from basic course) videos are repeated here for new students. Students who attended basic course , may refer if required.

In addition to colour mixing ,Background Colouring is shown . Please watch the video and follow the same steps.

Traditional murals used Panchavarana (Sanskrit: five colours) exclusively i.e. red, yellow, green, black and white,[2] white being the colour of the wall itself. Colours are prepared from vegetable and mineral pigments.

In Basic Course we  learned to paint using Acrylic colours and the Medium used is Canvas. Same colours are used in Advance Level.  This will help the student to get accustomed with colours and use of Brushes  and techniques used for a mural painting.

The student is introduced to Natural Colour Preparation only in Intermediate Course.
The First Step in colouring , Sketching of the outline is done using Red Colour. Acrylic Colour Vermilion Hue is used.
Second Step Yellow Base Colour (Kavi Manja/Yellow Ochre) is prepared using Acrylic Colours Yellow Ochre and Lemon Yellow.

Third Step Red Ochre( Kavi Chuvapu) is prepared using Acrylic Colours Vermilion Hue, Sap Green and Gambogue Hue.

Yellow Ochre and Red Ochre (Step 2 and Step 3) are base colouring as these two steps are common to all Mural painting figures.

Other Colours used are  Green and Blue .
Black is the Final Step in Mural painting
